Governance Audit
A nonprofit CEO recently told me "it doesn't really matter what the strategic plan says if the organization does not have the ability to implement them." In other words, an organization can have a compelling mission, great operational leadership, and amazing strategic objectives, but if that strategic plan is deployed in a void, it will not succeed.
At Diligent Consulting, we believe that a healthy and strong nonprofit organization requires 5 Pillars of Nonprofit Governance. Through a Nonprofit Governance Audit, nonprofit leaders have a proactive way to review the organization’s governance and written documentation, gain insight into gaps, identify opportunities for improvement, and develop a plan to improve board governance over time. This not only protects the organization from risk but also stabilizes the board, enhances the desirability for people to serve on the board in the future, and provides strategic and policy direction to guide the organization in day-to-day decisions.
A typical project workplan includes:
-
Facilitate stakeholder collaboration
-
Assess organization according to the 5 Pillars of Nonprofit Governance
-
Report findings and educate stakeholders
Deliverables: Findings will be documented in an editable template (example below) that provides the board with a tool to measure success over time. The nonprofit will receive an audit report, along with a recommended action plan to improve governance overtime. Finally, the organization will also receive a slide deck to be used to educate internal and external stakeholders regarding audit findings.
